Pool Advice • Barrie & Simcoe County

Practical seasonal guidance from Lakeshore Pool & Deck, written to help local homeowners protect their pools and make informed decisions.

What Is Included in a Professional Pool Closing in Barrie?

Cold nights arrive quickly in Barrie, and a pool that looks closed is not always properly protected. A professional pool closing should prepare the water level, plumbing, equipment and cover system for freezing conditions. It should also give the homeowner a clear record of what was completed.

At Lakeshore Pool & Deck, we close both above-ground and in-ground pools across Barrie and nearby Simcoe County communities. Here is what our standard closing includes, what may cost extra, and what you should prepare before the appointment.

What Lakeshore Includes in a Standard Pool Closing

Our standard pool closing includes the core winterization work required for a typical pool setup:

  • Water lowering
  • Plumbing winterization
  • Equipment blowout and winterization
  • Standard winter chemicals
  • Customer-supplied winter cover installation
  • Salt-system winterization
  • Heater winterization, when the pool has a heater
  • Completion photos

The exact process depends on the pool type and equipment layout. We review the information and photographs submitted with your request before confirming the quote and schedule.

You can see the current service details on our pool closing page.

Current Pool Closing Prices in Barrie

Our current standard starting prices are:

  • Above-ground pool closing: $319 + HST
  • In-ground pool closing: $429 + HST

These prices apply to the standard scope listed above. Add-ons, damaged or missing parts, difficult access and non-standard systems can change the final quote. We review those details before collecting the deposit and confirming the appointment.

Publishing the starting prices helps homeowners compare the actual scope instead of choosing a service based only on the lowest advertised number. A lower price may cover fewer items, so it is important to compare chemicals, heater winterization, cover installation and equipment preparation.

Above-Ground and In-Ground Pools Need Different Closing Steps

Above-ground pools commonly have exposed hoses, a skimmer, return fittings and equipment located close to the pool. The winter cover may use a cable-and-winch system or another above-ground arrangement.

In-ground pools can have several underground plumbing lines, multiple returns, one or more skimmers, a salt system, a heater, water features or equipment located farther from the pool. Cover systems can also vary between water bags, safety covers and other arrangements.

Both pool types need their plumbing and equipment winterized correctly. That is why Lakeshore uses separate request forms for above-ground and in-ground pools. The questions help us understand the pool before the crew arrives and reduce surprises on the appointment day.

What Can Cost Extra?

Some items fall outside a standard closing or require additional materials and labour. Possible extras include:

  • New or replacement water bags
  • Cover pumps
  • Replacement or specialty chemicals
  • Filter cleaning
  • Spas attached to the pool system
  • Water features
  • Complicated or non-standard plumbing systems
  • Extra labour caused by difficult access or unusual site conditions
  • Replacement plugs, hoses, fittings or damaged cover hardware

We do not automatically add these charges. If your request or the on-site inspection identifies extra work, the scope and price are reviewed before that additional work proceeds.

Are Pool Closing Chemicals Included?

Standard winter chemicals are included in Lakeshore’s standard pool closing price.

A pool with heavily contaminated water, unusual water chemistry or a special treatment requirement may need additional or specialty chemicals. If that applies, it will be discussed as part of the quote or before extra treatment is added.

For the best result, the pool should be in reasonable operating condition before the closing appointment. Tell us about cloudy water, algae, leaks or equipment problems when submitting the request so we can review the situation in advance.

What Homeowners Should Prepare Before the Appointment

A few simple preparations help the crew complete the closing efficiently:

  • Make sure the gate and equipment area are accessible.
  • Keep pets safely inside or away from the work area.
  • Place the winter cover and all cover hardware where the crew can access them.
  • Tell us about known leaks, broken fittings, damaged equipment or missing parts.
  • Submit clear photographs of the pool, equipment, cover and access route.
  • Remove personal items, toys and loose objects from around the pool.
  • Make sure electrical controls and equipment can be reached safely.

If your in-ground pool has a sump well, empty it two days before our arrival. This gives the area time to drain and helps the crew assess the condition properly.

The customer-supplied cover must be present and in usable condition. Damaged straps, torn cover sections, missing springs, broken cables or insufficient water bags may require replacement materials.

Why Completion Photos Matter

A pool closing happens months before the pool is reopened. Completion photographs create a useful record of the visible condition of the cover, equipment area and closing setup when the crew leaves.

Photos are especially helpful if the homeowner is away during the appointment. They also provide a reference if there is a question during the winter or when the pool is opened in spring.

How the Lakeshore Booking Process Works

Requesting a closing takes about two minutes:

  1. Choose the above-ground or in-ground request form.
  2. Answer the pool and equipment questions.
  3. Upload useful photographs.
  4. Select your preferred closing week.
  5. Lakeshore reviews the details and sends the confirmed quote.
  6. Approve the quote and deposit to secure the appointment.

The preferred week is a request, not an automatically confirmed appointment. Your date is confirmed after we review the pool details, pricing and route availability.

When Should You Close Your Pool in Barrie?

Most Barrie homeowners should plan before sustained freezing temperatures arrive. The ideal timing depends on water temperature, weather and how long you want to keep using the pool.

Booking early gives you a better choice of preferred weeks and reduces the risk of waiting until the first hard freeze. Read our guide on the best time to close a pool in Barrie for more seasonal guidance.
